Introduction: Ferri Middle School is located in Johnson Rhode Island 6 miles outside of Providence.Ferri Middle School, which is more formally known as Nicholas A. Ferri Middle School; was named after a 24 year veteran of the Johnson Schools in 1968. Perviously Ferri was orignally built in 1960, where it housed both middle schoolers and high school students until 1968 when Johnson senior high school was built. Currently, approximetly 78 faculty members are cosidered to be working at Ferri Middle school and a total of 730 students are enrolled. Ferri is a public school for grades 6 to 8 , and has a 10 to 1 ratio of students to teachers. Ferri is ranked 36th of 56 Rhode Island public middle schools in academics, while Johnson's ranked 34th of 46 Rhode island school districts. Ferri is currently known for having low test scores and rankings, but mayor Joseph Polisena is now working on building up the school systems in the district.

Community Background: Typically the property value per student for someone who goes to Ferri Middle School is $845,441.27 and overall the median family income for a student that goes here is roughly $54,837.00 a year; which is considered to be average for someone living in the state of Rhode Island. Ferri also has about 43% of students eligible for subsidized lunch which is perfectly average with the state of Rhode Island, but is above average with students who are recieveing special education services. Although Ferri does not have the most diverse student population it is quit common for people living in the Rhode Island area to have a mainly dominate white population.

District Summary: When compared to other schools, the Johnston school district has many different pro's and con's. The Johnston school district consists of 7 different schools from kindergarden to 12th grade. Overall within all the schools the student teacher ratio is about a 1:10 compared to the state average of 1:11. However unlike many other schools in Rhode Island the Johnston district has a high percent of Students who are receiving special education services, which could be benfical for a parent of a special needs child. Although the Johnston school district does not have any teachers with emergency certification, in the state of Rhode Island it is very rare to find teachers with this certification. A negative to Johnston is there attendance. Overall the average attendance is 93% of students are in school on average with 24% chronic absence rate; meaning that 24% of there absences are coming from the same people which is not good especailly for students looking to graduate.

School Analysis: Nicholas A. Ferri run by principle Dennis Morrell has been around sine the 1960's and because of that unlike the other middle schools in other districts it is reliable and therefore is not likely to close down. Overall Ferri's students score a little lower than average for the state of Rhode Island, (as seen below) which isn't necessarily a good thing since Rhode Island scores low nation wide.

Conclusion: In conclusion I have learned a lot about Ferri Middle School's but its positive and negatives aspects, and was able to research and learn a lot about a district. I was able to learn about a place that I wouldn't necessarily be able to know anything about if i wasn't given this research project, and i was able to see how it is for other students to learn based on where they live and the resources provided to them. For a parent looking to send there child to Ferri, i would tell them that the Nicholas Ferri Middle School is not very expensive for a family on a low budget, but doesnt offer the best education quality. The students at Ferri do not have the highest test scores or attendence but you are getting your moneys worth since the school has low taxes; and if a parent is looking to send there child to the best school i might not recommend Nicholas Ferri Middle school to them based strictly on the data that i have seen.
